My Review

I have had the chance to try out their pancake recipes. I am not a pancake person but boy oh boy are their pancakes yummy.
There are a few recipes I want to try. This is one of them:

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Ingredients
GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST:
2 cups graham-cracker crumbs
¼ cup sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
CHEESECAKE BATTER:

1½ cups (three 8-ounce packages) cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup sour cream, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1½ teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon allspice
Pinch of ground ginger
Pinch of ground cloves
1 cup pumpkin puree, room temperature
2 tablespoons heavy cream
3 large eggs
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350. Coat a 10-inch springform pan with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Make the crust: Mix the graham-cracker crumbs, sugar and vanilla in a small bowl. Stir in the melted butter until all the ingredients are well mixed.

3. Turn the crust mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly over the bottom (but not the sides). Press down firmly to form a crust.

4. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the crust from the oven and, let cool, while you start on the cheesecake batter. Turn down the oven temperature to 325.

5. Make the batter: In the bowl of an electric mixer, blend the cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla and spices until smooth. Add the pumpkin puree and heavy cream and mix until combined.

6. Add the eggs one at a time, until the mixture is smooth. Do not over mix.

7. Assemble the cheesecake: Pour the batter over the baked crust.

8. Bake for 1 hour in the water bath (see note, below).

9. Turn off the oven, prop open the oven door, and allow cake to cool for 10 minutes. Remove cake from oven and cool completely in fridge overnight.

10. Cut with a hot knife and serve.

Note: To make a water bath, use any roasting pan that is large enough to hold the pan in which you are baking. Try a roasting pan with two handles. It’s a good idea to wrap your springform pan in heavy-duty foil before adding water to the roasting pan. Use hot tap water for the bath and make sure the water lever is at least 1 inch up the sides of the pan but not so high that water will splash into the springform.

If you want to buy this cookbook you can do so at Amazon.com
I give this cookbook at 3 1/2 out of 5. I would give it a 4 but some of the recipes required some ingredients I don't know if we can get out here.

Celebrity Chekhov by Ben Greenman (book review

Book Description

The immortal stories of Anton Chekhov have long entranced readers with their insights into the universal truths of human behavior.

But you’ve never read them quite like this.

In a witty, graceful, and revelatory feat of literary reinvention, acclaimed novelist and humorist Ben Greenman has taken nineteen of Chekhov’s greatest stories and reimagined them as inhabited by some of the best-known entertainers of our time—to eye-opening, and ennobling, results. Marvel as:

• Former friends Nicole and Paris exchange barbed pleasantries in “Tall and Short”
• Former lovers Britney and Justin face lost love and youth in “A Lady’s Story”
• Eminem struggles with his art and creative process in “Hush”
• Lindsay faces her own redundancy as an actress in “A Classical Student”

More than just a literary stunt, Celebrity Chekhov is a surprisingly compassionate window into a set of lives that have traditionally been considered tabloid fodder at best. By turns devastating and devastatingly funny, this hilarious gem of a book will delight literature geeks and pop-culture addicts alike.

My Review

This book was ok I guess. It is just not for me. These little stories might be more interesting for teenagers who are studying Anton Chekhov's short stories or something. I prefer the original stories.

Girls to the Front: The True Story of the Riot Grrrl Revolution by Sara Marcus (book review)

Book Description

Girls to the Front is the epic, definitive history of Riot Grrrl—the radical feminist uprising that exploded into the public eye in the 1990s and included incendiary punk bands Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Heavens to Betsy, and Huggy Bear. A dynamic chronicle not just a movement but an era, this is the story of a group of pissed—off girls with no patience for sexism and no intention of keeping quiet.

My Review

This is a breathtaking book that speaks to a host of issues around modern feminism and what it means in lived, not academic, terms, in and outside of punk rock . If you are into this kind of book then you will love this one. Very informative and highly recommended .

Super cute

I completely forgot to post this photo last night.
My fiance and I always said when we get a dog we would never dress it up and we would laugh at people who do that. Well on Saturday we bough Azrael his own little jersey. Isn't just such a cutie?

Sunday, October 24, 2010

My weekend

Yesterday we brought Azrael (our puppy) over to a friend's house for a "puppy sleepover" because we were going out of town for a few hours.

We went to Ottawa,Ontario Canada to ScotiaBank Place to go see a hockey game.It was Ottawa Senators versus the Montreal Canadians . My team played horribly but at least my fiance and I had fun and it was our early Christmas gift to each other.

I also got a t-shirt with my Alfredsson and 11 writen on the back of it (my favorite player and his number) and also got a pink jersey.

Pukka: The Pup After Merle by Ted Kerasote (book review)

Book Descriptopn

From the author of the best-selling Merle's Door -- about which Elizabeth Marshall Thomas said, "Could be the best book ever written about dogs" -- comes the irresistible story of his new dog, Pukka
Since the publication of the best-selling Merle's Door, Ted Kerasote has received thousands of e-mails asking two questions: "Have you gotten another dog?" and "Are you writing a new book?" Pukka: The Pup After Merle answers both, in the most heartwarming way.

Told in the charming voice of Ted's new pup and illustrated with more than two hundred photos, Pukka tells the story of how Ted met the young yellow Lab, recounting the early days of their bonding as they explore Kelly, Wyoming, and the wider world. Walks become hikes and hikes become climbs, their adventures culminating in a rugged wilderness journey that teaches both Pukka and Ted something new about the dog-human partnership.

Filled with stunning images of the West, Pukka is a love story as well as Ted's take on raising a puppy. It will do pictorially what Merle did with words -- show how dogs thrive when treated as partners, while illustrating the many ways that any dog can open the door to our hearts.

 My Review
This is a very good book for you dog owners or even if you just love dogs. Story is told as Pukka. There  are  photos of Pukka's adventure and growing up on every page. It's a great coffee table book and a easy I read.

Did you know that . . .

  • The expressions all that glitters is not gold and apple of the eye have each been in use for more than a thousand years?
  • To bark up the wrong tree comes from the sport of raccoon hunting?

It was a great outlet for her in a time when she felt as though she could accomplish nothing. Melissa is currently working on a series of books titled "Melissa Over's Seriously Funny Guide To: “ With all the different situations she has been in the author feels guides can be an outlet for people to learn

Book Description

This is a short and sassy guide of truths to pregnancy. This is not for the light hearted, although I do encourage closet readers. However, they will need to have a good excuse as to why they are sitting in the closet laughing hysterically to themselves. This guide allows women to laugh and enjoy their pregnancy, even the most embarrassing of symptoms. As these are all very common with pregnancy but in such a secretive and judgmental world many women do not feel comfortable discussing these topics.

This book is very educational and will help many women feel more comfortable in their temporary new body that seems to be changing in many ways. With the vast number of hormones taking over, many women do not know what to truly expect when they are expecting. This is not complete textbook material as with Melissa Over's witty and twisted humor, many embarrassing experiences, and very sarcastic thoughts added in makes this the best pregnancy guide ever, while giving a good laugh, enjoyable time, and facts all at once.

Anyone who has had experience with being pregnant, wanting to become pregnant, or wants to just know the truths about pregnancy will love this book.

My Review

This book is funny and informative. It does give you more of an idea of what to expect during your pregnancy than most books tell you.If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant or even if you have children already you will love this book.

I give this book 4 out of 5.

Pandora’s Succession review

CIA operative, Ridley Fox, never stopped hunting his fiancé’s killers—a weapons consortium called The Arms of Ares. When an informant leads him to an old bunker outside of Groznyy, Chechnya, Fox is captured, beaten, and left for dead. When the informant rescues him, Fox learns that his capture was no coincidence: someone had set him up—possibly another government agent. Fox barely escapes after learning that Ares has acquired a hyperdeadly microbe—called Pandora—that is believed to have wiped out ancient civilizations. The trail leads Fox to Tokyo where he discovers that people within the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Japanese Intelligence want Pandora for themselves. The only person Fox can trust is a woman from his past who he nearly got killed.
