Dark Shadows on Blu-ray review

Director Tim Burton brings the cult classic series "Dark Shadows" to the big screen in a film featuring an all-star cast, led by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter.

In the year 1750, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from England to start a new life in America, where they build a fishing empire in the coastal Maine town that comes to carry their name: Collinsport. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of falling in love with a beauty named Josette DuPres (Bella Heathcote) and breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death—turning him into a vampire, and then burying him...alive.

Nearly two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972, a stranger in an even stranger time. Returning to Collinwood Manor, he finds that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin, and the dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets.

Family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) is the one person Barnabas entrusts with the truth of his identity. But his rather odd and anachronistic behavior immediately raises the suspicions of the live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), who has no idea what kind of problems she's really digging up.

As Barnabas sets out to restore his family name to its former glory, one thing stands in his way: Collinsport's leading denizen, who goes by the name Angie...and who bears a striking resemblance to a very old acquaintance of Barnabas Collins.

Also residing in Collinwood Manor are Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloƫ Grace Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gully McGrath). The longsuffering caretaker of Collinwood is Willie Loomis (Jackie Earle Haley), and new to the Collins' employ is David's nanny, Victoria Winters (Bella Heathcote), who is, mysteriously, the mirror image of Barnabas' one true love, Josette.

MY REVIEW

I wanted to see this movie when it was out in theaters but I didn't get the chance to so when I jumped to the chance to review this movie. I am a huge Johnny Depp fan and a Tim Burton fan so you can imagine how excited I was to watch and review Dark Shadows.

Anyways, I watched it on Friday afternoon and I have to say that I liked this movie but it was not as good as I expected it to be. It is not exactly like the old tv show which I wasn't surprised .It was dark with a few parts you will get a few little chuckles. It  wasn't one of the best movies I have seen but it was good enough to watch again in the near future.

I give this movie 3 1/2 stars out of 5

TV Moms: On-screen & Off-screen

In Season 7 of Bones, Brennan welcomes her most challenging role yet when she becomes a first time mother. When Actress Emily Deschanel announced her pregnancy in the season before, the writers found a way to combine Deschanel’s real life news and her alter-ego’s storyline. In this feature, we will take a look at other actresses who’s real life pregnancy intertwined with their characters’ on-screen lives.

JENNIFER GARNER

When Jennifer Garner was pregnant with her first child, Violet, the pregnancy was worked into the final season of Alias, making kick-ass Sydney Bristow one spy with a bun in the oven.

LISA KUDROW

Lisa Kudrow’s real-life pregnancy was written into the 4th and 5th season of Friends. However, instead of making the actress give birth to a baby of her own, the writers crafted a storyline where she became the surrogate mother to her brother’s triplets.

ALYSON HANNIGAN

When Alyson Hannigan became pregnant with her second child, her character Lily on How I Met Your Mother was already expecting so the writers didn’t have to change much with the story line. Talk about perfect timing!

JANUARY JONES

The writers of Mad Men took a different route when January Jones announced her pregnancy. Instead of making her character, Betty Draper, pregnant, Jones made her character fat by creating a story line about a tumor in her thyroid. A fat suit was brought in to cover Jones’ bump and perpetuate the “fat” character arch in the season.

JENNA FISCHER

Life certainly imitated art when Jenna Fischer announced she was expecting first child with her husband, Lee Kirk. Fischer, who plays Pam in The Office, was already scheduled to give birth to a second child in the show after Pam and Jim had a little Valentine’s Day lovin’. The story line was already in place and but it was only when Fischer shot the episode did she find out she was really preggers.

MY REVIEW

I have not heard of this movie until just a few weeks ago but it sounded interesting so I decided to review it.

This murder mystery movie starts off a little slow but it starts to pick up further into the movie and it is actually not bad.Not the best movie I have seen and reviewed this year but it kept me watching.

The black and white photography and interviews conducted by Bruce Meisterman showcase a community earmarked by minimalist living and deep community bonds but broken by the cods disappearance.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

REVIEW

I had heard of this show before but I had never seen it. I wanted to see it but unfortunately we do not get the channel it airs on so when I was asked to review this I was so excited. Anyways I watched the entire first season this weekend and I absolutely love this show. Very well done.

I have to say that this show is not for everyone. There is language, sexuality, nudity  and gruesome scenes but if you are into movies or shows like this then I think you might enjoy this show as much as I do.

CODIE PREVOST DRAWS SPECIAL ATTENTION AT THE CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION AWARDS

CODIE PREVOST DRAWS SPECIAL ATTENTION AT THE CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION AWARDS
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (September 12, 2012) This past weekend’s Canadian Country Music Association Awards drew massive attention from country music fans all over North America. Indie music artist Codie Prevost, who grew up on a farm near Archerwill, Saskatchewan, not only had the honor of being nominated for Rising Star at the awards show for a second year running, but he was also selected to be that one special star to arrive on the event’s green carpet in a very unique way -- aboard a John Deere 9410R Tractor. John Deere, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary, was the green carpet sponsor of this year's awards program.
“This has been such a fun evening. I am so honored to be nominated for the ‘Rising Star’ award two years in a row. I have an amazing team, dedicated fans and am truly grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. I’m a country boy through and through, and country music is such a big part of who I am”, says Prevost, enjoying the festivities at a CCMA after party.
Four time Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards “Entertainer of the Year” winner Codie Prevost, isn’t entirely new to the industry. His success thus far has seen him opening shows for the Oakridge Boys, Joe Nichols and Emerson Drive. He was invited to perform in Tours, France as part of the 2011 Country Rock Bike Festival and has been featured on ET Canada (YouTube). In 2011, with nearly 7,000 votes in his name, he won the 2011 CCMA Fanfest Contest which gave him the opportunity to perform at the 2011 CCMA FanFest in Hamilton alongside Terri Clark and Michelle Wright. Codie has performed the main stage at major country music festivals including Dauphin Countryfest, Craven Country Jamboree, VIEX and the Havelock Country Jamboree. At these events, he performed alongside such names as Reba, Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson and Kevin Costner.
According to Jim Reynolds, Operation Manager at NL Broadcasting Ltd., Codie Prevost has many fans – all of whom love his music and his high-energy live performances. "Codie Prevost and his band hit it out of the park at Country 103's 2012 Summer Thunder concert in Kamloops! He really appreciates the love of his fans. His interaction with the fans before and after the concert proves that”, he says.
About Codie Prevost
Less than ten years ago, Codie Prevost started performing in small town bars for $100 a night. In 2004, he incorporated Codie Prevost Music and took out a small business loan to fund his first album, The Road Ahead. The recording of this first album took place in Nashville and soon after its release, the debut CD won “Album of the Year” at the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards. In 2008, he recorded his second album called Spin 6-PAK Vol.1. A few short years later he recorded his third album Get Loud, in Vancouver, with help from producer Tom McKillip. Codie Prevost’s latest single “Last Night All Day” has hit the radio circuit and is presently on Country Music Television (CMT). Codie has four music videos on CMT, Last Night All Day, Honky Tonk Groupie, Standing Still, and Rolling Back To You. He is currently working on his fourth studio album to be released in 2013. Fans are eager to hear what the new album has to offer.
Special thanks to Evident Investigations, Codie’s Gold sponsor at the 2012 Canadian Country Music Association Awards.

Jennifer Johnson Is Sick of Being Married by Heather McElhatton book review

A wicked comedy about the perils of making your dreams come true

Quirky, clever, cubicle-bound Jennifer Johnson is desperate. Everyone around her is getting married, while she's still single and stuck writing ad copy about men's dress socks.

Her life hits crisis level, launching her into a humiliating and painfully hilarious quest to find Prince Charming at any cost. This includes agonizing online dates, diet-clinic cults, drag-queen fights, and a debilitating addiction to Cinnabon icing. When she meets handsome, wealthy Brad Keller, she wonders if he's the answer to all her dreams, or is he just too good to be true?

Darkly funny and outrageously honest, McElhatton's wit shines in this no-holds-barred cautionary tale about getting what you want--and how it can be the worst thing for you.

MY REVIEW

I have to admit I have not read the first book, Jennifer Johnson is Sick of Being Single and I was a little worried I might be a little confused but that was not the case.
Today was a boring rainy day so I figured I would snuggle on the sofa with my little dog on my lap and read this book.

This book is a easy and funny read that made me laugh a bunch of times.

I highly recommend this.

How I Met Your Mother Lily and Marshall’s Guide for First-Time Parents

How I Met Your Mother: The Complete Season 7 out on Blu-ray and DVD on October 2nd

Lily and Marshall’s Guide for First-Time Parents

In How I Met Your Mother’s seventh season, first time parents, Lily and Marshall have to adjust to the rigors of parenthood and find out, like many before, just how hard it is. So fresh from family naptime, here are the topfive Eriksen family tips for first-time moms and dads.
  • GET HELP. You’ll probably hear family and friends say things like “if you need help…” and “anytime you need a sitter…” Take them up on it! Also, it’s healthy to socialize. Do not feel guilty for it.
  • THEY DO SLEEP. But they usually mix up nights and days during the first several weeks. What’s more, most babies do not sleep through the night until they are about four months old. Remember that too much sleep during the day will keep nighttime visitor Mr. Sandman away. And sleep when the baby sleeps!
  • PLAN AHEAD. Meal time, bath time, bedtime, play time, naptime… You’ll be doing yourself a huge service by trying to plan ahead and making sure you have everything you need from the start of whatever the activity is.
  • BEWARE OF OVERSTIMULATION. Mommy, daddy, grandparents and friends may have gone a little overboard, buying baby presents so be cautious about giving too much to the baby too soon. Over stimulated babies don’t sleep and overtired babies cry. A lot.
  • DON’T FREAK OUT. You’re going to make mistakes but that’s never going to change so the best thing you can do for yourselves and your baby is accept this and keep going.

Plus size Joan Leopard Print Chemise and Robe Set review

Since my husband is coming home soon from a long deployment I thought that lingerie would be a good thing to review so I picked Joan Leopard Print Chemise and Robe Set from PlusSizeLingerieBoutique.com  because I love leopard Prints.

For $29.95 USD I think that is a very good deal for a plus size chemise and robe. All the places I have looked before for lingerie the prices was higher than that.

I tried them on the day that I received them and I have to say I was very comfortable to wear and I like the look and feel of them. I got the 1X/2X and I was a little worried they would not fit me but I was pleasantly surprise to find that they fit perfectly and I am so happy with mine. It took me a little bit of time figuring out how to put it on because I  do not often wear girlie stuff like this but once I figured out how to adjust it to fit properly and stay on. It is starting to be a little bit to cold to wear this at night but I know  I will be wearing it more when the temperature is warmer. I am now thinking of purchasing a little bit of lingerie  from this site in the near future but the only problem is I can't decide what to buy because there are quite a few things I want to get but good thing they are not very expensive.

These are 97% Polyester and  3% Spandex  and to wash you have to hand wash (do not use bleach) and hang dry.

If you are looking to purchase  intimate apparel I highly recommend this site and I highly recommend this chemise and robe.

Tilt by Ellen Hopkins book review

Three teens, three stories—all interconnected through their parents’ family relationships. As the adults pull away, caught up in their own dilemmas, the lives of the teens begin to tilt….

Mikayla, almost eighteen, is over-the-top in love with Dylan, who loves her back jealously. But what happens to that love when Mikayla gets pregnant the summer before their senior year—and decides to keep the baby?

Shane turns sixteen that same summer and falls hard in love with his first boyfriend, Alex, who happens to be HIV positive. Shane has lived for four years with his little sister’s impending death. Can he accept Alex’s love, knowing that his life, too, will be shortened?

Harley is fourteen—a good girl searching for new experiences, especially love from an older boy. She never expects to hurdle toward self-destructive extremes in order to define who she is and who she wants to be.

Love, in all its forms, has crucial consequences in this standalone novel.

MY REVIEW

I know a lot of people liked this book but personally it is just not for me. I got bored with it and actually had to force myself to read it all.

BACK TO SCHOOL REUSABLE DURABLE DORM MOVE IN & OUT BOXES

PACKAWAYS Dorm Boxes are available in 4 colors and different sizes. The sizes include moving boxes and a large underbed storage size 36L x 24W x 6"H that would be ideal for extra clothes and neat storage where space is tight in dorm rooms. Moving boxes are engineered to erect and collapse instantaneously without tape, these are super for moving kids to and from school. Made from durable polypropylene, these boxes should last the 4 years of moving your children to and from school.
While ideal for this particular application, PACKAWAYS can be used for numerous organizational projects around the home.
Low cost and Proudly made in the U.S.A.

MY REVIEW

I received 2 of these storage boxes to review. One is pink and the other green. These are very good for moving kids to and from school but I do not have any kids but we do move a lot and think this is great to use on some of the stuff we will pack in our car when we move again but right now that it is that time of year that we put summer clothes away these boxes sure came in handy. I am filled them up with summer clothing and put them away for the Fall/Winter. What I like about these is that they are lightweight and the wipe away panels and that when you aren't using them you can fold them flat so they do not take so much room. I am thinking of buying a few for Christmas decorations.

They come in different sizes and colours. Check out Packaways site for sizes and colours.

I highly recommend these .

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.comhttp://www.tomoson.com/?code=BOTTOMfc221f8ab00e260170649fd3eaac651d">Tomoson.com
>. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

MY REVIEW

Meeloo is 10 years old and for the past 2 years she has had the habit of doing her business beside her litter box instead of in it. I tried liner in her box but she refuses to go in it with the liner. I do clean her  litter box often so that is not why she will not use it and I really am getting frustrated with her. I was skeptical when I first heard about Litter Getter but I tried the Litter Getter and I am happy to say that it really works.I have been using it in her litter for over a week now and I happy to say she now does her duties in her litter box now.

To use it you just mix a quarter of a bottle of LitterGetter with 20-25 lbs of cat litter in an open and clean litter box. When you add more litter just add an additional 1.8th of a bottle. One bottle should last you for up to 3 months!

Check out LitterGetter's website for more information on purchasing this fantastic product or you can purchase at amazon.com

I highly reccomed this product.
