Dead Man's Eye by Shaun Jeffrey (book review)

A corneal transplant does more than correct Joanna Raines sight. It allows her to see something that doesn't want to be seen. Something evil. Something that threatens mankind. The only trouble is that no one believes her, and by the time they do, it might be too late ...

Seeing is believing. Now Joanna just has to convince everyone else.

about this author

Shaun Jeffrey was brought up in a house in a cemetery, so it was only natural for his prose to stray towards the dark side when he started writing. He has had three novels published, Evilution, The Kult and Deadfall, and one collection of short stories, Voyeurs of Death. He has also had over 40 short stories published in places such as Dark Discoveries and Cemetery Dance. His novel The Kult was optioned for film and shooting has just finished.

My Review
I really enjoyed this  book. I read it yesterday and I could not put this one down. When I first started reading it though I really thought it was similar in concept to the film "Jian Gui" and the  American re-make "The Eye," but as I read on it was very different. If you like Thriller/horror and dark novels then I highly recommend this one.

In its 14th and final season, Dallas goes out in a gusher of murders and kidnappings, lies and blackmail, seductions and schemes. J.R., Bobby and Cliff – three original characters so big only Big D could hold ’em – are at the heart of the action, surrounded by oil-country folks who joined the series over the years and a passel of dynamic newcomers. And of course there’s that Dallas hallmark, a white-knuckle cliffhanger. This time it’s a two-part finale inspired by It’s a Wonderful Life in which J.R.’s guardian from the great beyond shows the Lone Star State’s meanest rattler what the world would have been without him. Think everything’s for the better? Then you’re in for some surprises!

Dallas:The Complete Fourteenth season came out on DVD on January 18th 2011. You can buy it in a store nears you or you can buy it in the WB Store

I loved watching ER but I did end up having to miss a lot of it due to the fact that it played late in the evening and because of that I ended up missing a lot of episodes. I am so glad the ER is on dvd because now I can watch it whenever I want.
Anyways I don't think this season was one of the best but it was a good one anyways.Definitely do recommend you get this if you are a fan for the show. I love the fact that you can see  parts of the show that was cut out, which I thought was pretty cool. The case is plastic which is good because it keeps the discs from being damaged which is great .

Becoming a vampire saved Alyssa from death, but the price was high: the loss of everything and everyone attached to her mortal life. She s still learning to cope when a surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum s most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the friend she s missed more than anything.

Not my regular post

As you all know by now, we have moved into an other Province last summer. We are using Bell internet and I have to tell you we are not happy with our Internet at all.

From day 1 we have had problems with them. The internet is slow and some days it doesn't even work. Also the only package they could give us for our area only gives us 10 GB bandwidth...Now with the age of Netfliks, iTunes and online gaming this is nothing. We did pay extra to get a extra 20 GB. Just last month we went over our quota and of course we can't go and buy more bandwidth. Grrr... that got on our nerves especially since I play a online game, plus I got a iTunes card and a PlayStation card for the Holidays and I can't even buy and download anything or else we will be charge by the MBs. Well maybe it is enough for most people but for us it is frustrating especially since where we lived before our bandwith limit was 125GB.

WHOM GOD WOULD DESTROY book review and giveaway

A novel to incite a Judeo-Christian Fatwa: When "God" decides to mess with humanity once more, he runs into some kinks he didn't foresee... WHOM GOD WOULD DESTROY, it's about God, insanity and the search for the Ultimate Orgasm. Luke Rhinehart (author of the cult classic, The Dice Man) calls WHOM GOD WOULD DESTROY, "a wonderful novel with an original comic vision and style that had me laughing aloud. Commander Pants has created a unique cast of characters and tells a story that gets increasingly mad as we proceed, climaxing in a series of scenes, each one topping the previous one."

My Review
I wasn't really expecting much from this book when Commander Pants offered me a copy of this book to review. I was very surprised at how much I really did enjoy this book and it was one I read in one day. It kept in interested in the story and I highly recommend this book! Into the Light film review

About The Film

“When you ask people, do you think Tanzanians know what they should know about AIDS everyone will say ‘yeah, yeah, they know,’ but if they know then why is the problem still there?” So asks Tanzanian sociologist Mama Lyimo (pronounced “Lee-Mo”) about the horrific and emotional toll of the HIV/AIDS death rate in her East African country. A woman of immense heart and strong will, Lyimo wants to know why hundreds of thousands of her countrymen and women are dying each year, leaving behind children with no one to care for them, no one to comfort them, no one to teach them.

Setting out on a 40-day journey across Tanzania to see for herself why the pandemic continues to thrive, Lyimo is compelled to find out the answer as she listens to people’s stories, all the while giving a passionate and unrelenting face to the African fight against AIDS. When she befriends an illuminating AIDS orphan named Suzy, Lyimo’s personal journey becomes more urgent and intimate than she could have ever imagined.

Director Peter Glenn worked with Mama Lyimo for two years before filming began on INTO THE LIGHT.  Frustrated that millions of dollars and work hours had amounted to few successes in the fight against AIDS, Lyimo called Peter to task. “The problem is we’re always fighting AIDS from the top down.  We need to go to talk with people at the grassroots and make a documentary about what they think needs to be done most to fight AIDS.  The only way we are going to find new solutions is by understanding the lives of those affected by the disease.”

Shot on location across the stunningly beautiful landscape of Tanzania, the musical score for INTO THE LIGHT is by Tsotsi composer Paul Hepker who is accompanied by the soulful voice of acclaimed East African artist Ayub Ogada.
One woman’s commanding proclamation on the state of the human condition, INTO THE LIGHT is both devastating and inspiring: from a caring heart to the driven action of a woman on a mission, Into the Light strikes a note of hope amidst a sea of pain.

Festivals & Awards
In July of 2008, “Into the Light” won the Ousmane Sembene Films for Development Award at the
Zanzibar International Film Festival in Tanzania.
The film celebrated its world premiere at the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam in
November of 2007.
It made its U.S. premiere at the Pan African Film Festival of Los Angeles in
February of 2008.
“Into the Light” has also screened at the OneWorld International Documentary
Festival in Prague and the Amakula Kampala International Film Festival in 2008.

My Review

Into The Light is a very interesting and informative little film. I am not usually into this kind of film. I think this is awesome and it should be showed in schools everywhere. Check it out.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars

First off, this is NOT a diet or exercise book. Yes, there are diet and exercise suggestions through out the book, but they are helpful hints and some lifestyle changes that can help towards that first step of taking action.
I have tried a few of the suggestions in this book and I was very surprised that some of them really did help me .I think i will try it some more and maybe do the  14 day plan.
If you are a busy mom I think this book will be great for you..

I give this 4 1/2 out of 5 starts.

Second Chance by Sandra J. Gerencher (book review)

Second Chance How Adoption Saved a Boy with Autism & His Shelter Dog

About The Book
The timeless tale of a boy (with autism) and his (shelter) dog. Over the past 10 years, author Sandra Gerencher has been on a mission to save dogs from high-kill animal shelters. Her first rescue was P.J., the black and white Pomeranian in the story. She also adopted the orange Pomeranians Shelby and Lil Rascal, and of course, Chance, the big black Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix. All characters in the story are based on Sandra's real life family. The book is filled with softly blended watercolor photos of her loved ones. Her most significant adoption was her son, Terry. He was considered a special needs child because he was born with a genetic disorder known as Fragile X Syndrome. The disorder can cause many cognitive disorders, such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mental retardation and depression.

Sandra J. Gerencher Bio:
Sandra J. Gerencher is a special education teacher in the Bangor Area public school system. Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked at Lehigh University in a school-based program, as a Program Specialist for adults with disabilities. Over the past 20 years she has worked with children and adults with special needs in such areas as counseling, Behavior Specialist Consultation, behavioral research, crisis intervention and abuse therapy. Sandra graduated from Lehigh University with a M.Ed. in Special Education (2004) and from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia with an M.S. in Counseling Psychology (1999).

My Review
Second Chance is a charming story written in the point of view of a rescue dog. Chance is adopted by a family with an autistic child, Ryan, and three other dogs, P.J., Little Rascal, and Shelby.  The book is a wonderful way to teach children about autism, and adoption of both children and dogs.

Happy New Year

Well an other year has passed and I have to say 2010 went so fast.

We had a big move. We really didn't want to leave all our friends and James's family and we really loved the weather in Victoria,BC but we knew it wasn't going to be our home foerever. Maybe someday we will be going back for a visit someday . At least we moved in a city we already knew  and other than cold winter and humid summers Kingston,Ontario isn't so bad.

We bought a house. It isn't our dream home but it will do. Needs to a bit of fixing up and renovating but it isn't really so bad.

A week after we moved into our new home we got a puppy. We had wanted a dog for a while and after we were all moved into our house we decided to get our puppy who is now almost 8 months old.

An other good thing that has happened is that my blog is slowly growing and I can now do more reviews than just once every few months. Thanks you to all of you who are following my blog and to authors who have given me the opportunely to read their books and to companies who have let me do reviews of their products.

There were also sad times like one of my cousins past away. She passed away when she was so young but without a fight. Also newborn nephew passed away.

I know 2011 will be bring some good times and bad times. I know I will most likely spend a good part of 2011 on my own and will have to learn to be independant again because  my husband will most likely  be going to be deployed at some point this year. It will be a difficult time for me but hopefully this blog will be keeping me busy during that time.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great 2011.
