MY REVIEW

I don't usually watch and review movies like this but it really sounded interesting so I decided it give it a chance and I found myself actually enjoying The Ultimate Life.

It is a very touching story  and very well written and the acting was pretty good. I admit at some part in the movie I had tears.

I recommend this movie.

I give this 4 out of 5

The 12 Drinks of Christmas

Christmas is here and with it the time to enjoy and sit back and relax. So, we’ve compiled a list of the 12 drinks of Christmas.

Bucks Club

Bucks Fizz isn’t so great; however Bucks Club is its erudite older brother. Bucks Club is a mix of good champagne and some fresh juice from half an orange. Ideally, this is how to make it.

  • Gin – 25ml

  • Cherry Brandy – a dash

  • Juice of half an orange

  • Champagne 100ml.

  • The Santa Shot

Mix layers of grenadine, crème de menthe and red peppermint schnapps together, using the back of a spoon to separate them and viola, you’ve a shot that encompasses the look and taste of the festive season.

    Negroni

Made from a mixture of gin, sweet vermouth, Campari and Prosecco over a glass of ice, with a slice of orange – Negroni is the perfect Christmas drink. It’s a beautiful smart drink that people love at this time of year.

    • 30ml Gin

    • 30ml Campari

    • 30ml Prosecco

    • 30ml Sweet Vermouth

    • Hot Buttered Rum

This is best made with spiced rum and if you can make your own you’re better off. Simply add rum, boiling water, butter and sugar to a glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick and nutmeg.

      • 60ml Spiced Rum

      • 120ML boiling water

      • Knob of butter

      • Brown sugar to taste

      • Whisky Mac

This is quite a simply but excellent drink that’s over 150 years old. It’s best made with 10ml ginger liquor and a 40ml shot of Speyside whisky and then served over ice with a slice of ginger.

        Golden Kiss

This is a fantastic Christmas drink. You will need cocao nibs. These have then to be toasted to golden before they are cooled and left in vodka for 3-6 days to infuse. Strain them out and put the vodka in the fridge. This can then be served alone, or you can make a Golden Kiss. This is made by adding 30ml of your infused vodka to 120ml of champagne.

        Atholl Brose

This is Queen Victoria’s favourite drink and a really fantastic drink during Christmas time. Place 500g of porridge oats into 700ml of whisky and leave to soak overnight. In another jar combine 225ml of honey with 100ml of boiling water and dissolve, add the cream. Next wring the whisky through muslin and strain into the cream and honey and stir. Now refrigerate and then pour into a stopper bottle. Why not save on the ingredients with  http://www.oz-coupons.com/danmurphys.com.au/

        Irish Ristretto

This is a simple drink to make and involves you mixing 250ml of espresso with a 700ml bottle of whisky and a vanilla pod split. This is then left for over a week and for as long as you like. It can then be served as an after dinner liquor served with cream and poured into short glasses.

        Mojito Royale

Mojitos are popular because they taste amazing. However, the mojito Royale takes things up a notch. It essentially involves you swapping soda water for champagne – something that truly adds an edge to the drink.

        Candy Cane

The candy cane consists of half white chocolate liqueur and half peppermint schnapps. Add some crushed candy canes and it looks amazing.

        Gin Twist

This is a simple and tasty drink very popular during the 19th century. It’s easy to make too and involves you combining 30ml of gin with the same amount of lemon juice and hot water and then adding sugar to taste. Garnish with a lemon twist.

        The Original Cocktail

The world’s first cocktail, created in 1798. Add 40ml of gin, 10ml of triple sec and King’s Ginger Liqueur to a glass of ice and then top with two dashes of angostura bitters.

These are just some of the great cocktails that can be made for Christmas and will be popular with your visitors, while allowing for some experimentation.

Speedquizzing The Smartphone Pub Quiz App

Speedquizzing has been around for at least a year now, and you might have heard of the revolutionary smartphone pub quiz. The truth is, that name barely belies what the system is capable of, and now that the website has received a complete overhaul it is much easier to imagine the vast possibilities.

        The Smartphone Pub Quiz

For those not in the know, Speedquizzing revolutionises the pub quiz format by having it all take place on a smartphone or tablet. There's an app to download and then you're ready to go – it takes less time than deciding on a suitable team name! The host reads questions aloud and the players respond on their devices, either by selecting an answer or typing it. There are options for picture and music rounds, and a virtual buzzer for head-to-head matches designed to evoke the feeling of a game show.

        The New Website

Following a recent rebranding exercise, the website at speedquizzing.com got a huge overhaul. The company was developed by the brothers Alan and John Leach, who had originally worked themselves on the website design, logo and promotional materials and did an excellent job – however as part of their rebrand they asked for professional help on improving their appearance. The difference shows, as the logo is much sleeker than it had been, showing the simple and clear image of two hands touching a phone or tablet. As another result of experimentation with logo design, the brothers Leach were left with an abundance of graphic designs which, instead of wasting, were added to the new Poster Designer tool, allowing hosts to take control of their own advertising without needing any Photoshop skills.

        The New Quiz

There are also some ingenious new tools for the Speedquizzing game. Firstly, a new feedback system allows the host to see the individual answers from each team as opposed to whether it was just correct or incorrect, right up until they ask the next question. Another feature called Evil Mode raises the stakes of the game and can cause incorrect answers to actually lose points for the team – the perfect tool to increase drama in the game in the final rounds. There are also a number of hidden features for advanced users; anyone who feels capable of handling more functions can find these features on the Speedquizzing forums.

Speedquizzing is getting bigger and better as time goes on and as the number of extra features continue to increase no one will be getting bored with the format any time soon. It not only changes the pub quiz format forever but introduces a whole new level of risk and reward.

        Ice Storm 2013

This past weekend wasn't a good one.  I knew the weather network was calling freezing rain but really we didn't expect it to be bad. Most of the times when our city gets warnings it isn't as bad as they predict but this weekend it was bad.

We decided to go grocery shopping in late morning on Friday before the weather got bad and the roads got slippery. We were lucky enough that the roads only started to get a little slippery when we were on our way home from grocery shopping.
Before I went to bed I made sure I plugged in all my devices for just in case we lose electricity and good thing I did.

Saturday morning we woke up to this

Yes the city turned into a big skating rink. I have to tell you it wasn't fun and it sure wasn't fun taking the dog out.  He refused to go out without his people (me or my husband) so we had to go out there with him. I didn't go far from the front door but poor little guy kept slipping and sliding and he fell once but he is ok.
It was raining and freezing rain all day and I am happy I had plugged in all my devices the night before because at 12pm we lost electricity. We only lost it for an hour and then an hour at other times during the day so really the house . It wasn't so bad without electricity during the day because I was able to finish reading a paperback that I have been reading on and off for the past week.

The part that I hated was when I was making dinner and we lost power. Not fun at all and we were hungry too.

We lost power again at around 7:30 so I decided to just go up to bed and do some reading on my Kindle until I went to sleep .

During the night the electricity came back on and went back off.

This morning I woke up at 7:15 and had electricity so I decide to go take a shower, have breakfast and a cup of coffee before the electricity went out again. Lucky enough as of right now (2pm) we have not lost electricity  since the early hours of the morning.

Oh and we got a bit of snow on top of the ice early this morning and a bit more rain.

I just checked the Weather Network and we are still under freezing rain warning.

How is the weather where you are?

Gay Lea's NEW Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Spreadables Butter

I recently had the chance to review Gay Lea's NEW Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Spreadables Butter and I have to say I am in love with this new butter.

I am not one to eat breakfast much but once in a while I will make toasts with margarine or butter. Since I have gotten my first cinnamon and brown sugar spreadable butter I have been eating 2 toasts every morning.  Before I tried it I thought it might be too sweet but really I find it just perfect. Only problem is now I just can't have toasts or bagels without this new butter.

Sometime soon I want to use this in some baking.

Have your tried Gay Lea's NEW Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Spreadables Butter? Did you like it?

Winter Fashions that Make Great Holiday Gifts

Retailers generate anywhere from 20% to 40% of their annual revenues from winter holiday sales. The fact that some Americans go holiday shopping without a specific spending limit in mind is a major reason why billions are spent over three to four months. However, American consumers don't only remove the limits on how much they'll spend, they also spend larger amounts of money on certain products.

For instance, electronics, toys, jewelry and fashions like a soft cashmere dress, silk shirt and tweed hat, are among the top winter gifts shoppers buy for their colleagues, family and friends. Additionally, in 2010, just a few years after the great recession hit, Americans spent more than $21 billion on clothes or fashions, accounting for 20.6% of all holiday gift purchases, according to IBIS World. Surprisingly, gift cards was the second gift item Americans spent the most money on. Americans spent more than $17 billion on gift cards in 2010.

Among the winter fashions that make great gifts are boots, hats, cashmere dress outfits, designer jeans, sweaters and, of course, coats. These and other fashions are popular because not only are they practical, but they can also help women and men make a grand entrance at corporate and community events like company holiday parties and community winter festivals.

As the Huffington Post reports, "In our lovely diverse country, a variety of holidays are celebrated with very different foods and traditions." Furthermore, "But two things remain fairly consistent, regardless of religion or culture during this joyous time: Winter weather and the incentive to dress up in our best holiday fashions."

When it comes to spotting great winter fashions, celebrities continue to lead the way. Jennifer Lawrence impressed fans and the media while wearing a brocade dress at the 38th Annual Los Angeles, Film Critics Association Awards. Actress Molly Simms turned heads in a white dress that stopped just above her knees.

A white cashmere dress offers a similar classy look. Pink is also making waves, showing up at fashion shows. Thigh high boots, oversized coats and calf length cashmere dress sets are also en vogue. If choosing a dress as a winter gift, opt for a dress that has long sleeves. At a minimum, the sleeves should reach below the shoulders. For example, a cashmere dress that reaches to the wrists and that's made with 4-ply Scottish yarn offers the same level of warmth as a winter sweater.

As attractive as they may appear to be, winter dresses that have slits in them are considered a "no no" by some fashion experts. Shirts and blouses that expose the stomach might also be items to wait until spring breaks to buy as gifts. However, dresses that reach below the calves could be a hit with friends and colleagues.

If shorter dresses and skirts are purchased as gift items, consider including a pair of stylish stockings with the outfits. These fashions are great because they keep women warm. Add the right accessories and some of these warmer fashions also wear well during spring.

This was contributed by Miranda Hefner.

What Is The Perfect Tub Chair For Your Home?

Why you should buy a tub chair

If you have just moved into a new house, had an extension built, are completely redesigning a room of your house or just want to treat yourself to something then a brand new high quality tub chair could be just the thing you are looking for. A tub chair can provide you with a comfortable place to relax after a hard stressful day and can add real character to a room. TubChairs.com stocks a superb range of high quality Tub Chairs.

        Choosing your tub chair

There are many types of tub chair to consider when making your purchase. To start with you may just want a simple classic design with a comfortable fabric and an attractive design. There are plenty of designs to choose from including a simple one colour design, flowery patterns, spotty patterns and stripy patterns. As for the fabrics you can choose from ditto natural, neyland tartan, tarmen clush and carmen blush to name but a few. When it comes to colours then it's recommended that you choose whatever suits the surroundings you plan to place it in. Basic tub chairs come in blue, red, cream and grey shades along with many other colours so there is bound to be one which suits your needs.

        Other types of tub chair

You may want to stray away from the basic fabric tub chair and go for something a little bit different. One such alternative is a leather tub chair which will provide great comfort at times when you need to relax a little. You may want to consider a leather tub chair if you want a plain one colour design over a patterned one. As with fabric tub chairs leather ones are available in almost any colour or shade you can think of. You could choose a colour such as brown or black if you just want something for sitting in or you could go for orange or yellow or another bright colour if you want to add a little colour to your room.

Another alternative you may want to consider is a tub chair which swivels as opposed to one which cannot. Swivel tub chairs could be great if you want to change the direction you look in your room. You may want to talk to one person and then turn to face a person seated over the other side of the room to have a conversation with them. This would be much more hassle with an ordinary fixed tub chair. A swivel tub chair could also come in handy if you are looking for a tub chair for your desk for example. You may have young children in the same room you want to keep an eye on whilst working. Again this is a much easier task to fulfill with a swivel tub chair.

The right tub chair for you

As you can see there is a wide range of choices when it comes to choosing your tub chair. You need to make a decision on the type of material you would like, as well as the design and what you actually want to do in it. Luckily with such a wide range to choose from, you shouldn't have any problem finding your perfect tub chair.

        November's ChefButler Box Update

A few days ago I post my review for ChefButler Supscription box.
November's box was Korean. I have never made Korean food and I admit I don't think I have ever had Korean food so I was scared of making these.

I made the Sujeonggwa (cinnamon and ginger punch) yesterday instead of when I made the other recipes because I didn't have any ginger root .
It was ok but I have never really been a big fan of ginger.Maybe if you like ginger you may like it but personally this just isn't for me.

        Pajeon (Scallion Pancakes)

For some reason I can barely ever get pancakes cooked right and it isn't usually a big deal since I never liked pancakes anyways but I admit I really liked these even though this one just didn't want to cook properly but it was good anyways.

This is the dipping sauce for the scallion pancakes and I actually had to put a little less pepper flakes because this sauce was hot but it is so good with the scallion pancakes.  We really liked it.

My husband liked the Bibimbap and I would have liked it if it weren't for the bean sprouts. I had never had bean sprouts before and i found out I don't like it. I changed things up a little bit with this recipe and because I love mushrooms I cut some of the mushrooms a bit bigger than the recipe called for. For the Bibimbap my husband helped out making it .

The scallion pancakes and the dipping sauce do take take long to make. The  Cinnamon and ginger punch takes a little over 30 minutes but the Bibimbap took over an hour.

What I really like about ChefButler is that I got to try foods I have never had before and it got me a little bit more creative with the meal. I am not a great cook but the extra instructions helped a lot.

I am so happy that I got the chance to try out ChefButler and I got to try some Korean food.

If you love trying new foods this is a fantastic monthly box to get.  I think I might subscribe to it in the near future because I want to try different foods and recipes instead of always the same ones I use all the time.

The subscription box costs  $35/month for a box every month or $17.50/month for boxes every other month. If you use promo code GEEKYGIRLREVIEWS” you will get 50% off the first month of your subscription.

        WOLL Diamond Plus cookware review

WOLL Diamond Plus cookware made of pressure cast aluminum and is dishwasher safe and metal utensil friendly.”

Woll Diamond Plus cookware is available in open stock or a 7-piece sets and prices range from $100.00 to $275.00

I have used this pan a bunch of times since I received it and I have to say I am extremely impressed with it.   It is very good quality and easy to clean. The other day I accidentally had the stove on too high and forgot to put cooking oil . No clue how I forgot that because I don't usually forget it. Anyways I had some soy sauce the was stuck at at the bottom of the pan and when I wash it (hand washed) I just wiped with with soap and hot water and it came clean with no scrubbing.

I really like the fact that it is metal utensil friendly even though I don't often use metal utensils but it is nice that I won't ruin the pan if I do.

If you are looking for good quality pan that will last a long time, I suggest you buy this one. You can get it at Pangea direct

Wantable Monthly Accessories Subscription Box (November) review

The product(s) featured in this review were provided free of cost to me by the manufacturer or representing PR agency for the sole purpose of product testing. Opinions expressed are my own and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.*

Wantable create unique customer profiles by asking customers a series of product and personality questions. We then use this data to introduce customers to assortments of products perfectly suited to their personal taste. It is very simple to get started. The hardest part is deciding what kind of box you want.  I was in the site for 30 minutes trying to decide if I wanted a  beauty, accessories, intimates, or the holiday box. It was such a hard decision but  I have enough makeup right now I really didn't want a intimates box so I picked accessories.
I admit I am super picky when it comes to accessories so I was a little worried I wouldn't like it but I was super impressed with my personal box.

Here is what was in my Wantable box
        Mirabella earrings
I really like these Mirabella earings. I love that they aren't very big and I absolutely love the colours. This would absolutely look lovely with my outfit that I am going to be wearing for Christmas.

        Imagine earrings
Right as soon after I took this photo I just had to try these one. They are a little plain but they go great with anything you wear so they are good for everyday life.

        Everly bracelet
Isn't this pretty? I absolutely love this one. It feels like Wantable really knew that it is prefect for me.  I don't wear bracelets often but this one I just want to show off because it is so pretty.

        Roxie Necklace

This necklace is really nice but I just wish it was just bit longer. This is going to be perfect for my New Years eve outfit and I can't wait to show it off to everyone.
All in all I am very impressed with this and I think it is a great value. Subscription runs at $36/month, or you can purchase a single box for $40. Shipping is free and you can cancel, return or skip anytime.
Their products are full size so if you decided to get the beauty box you will get full size product. They work with brands like Coobie, Betsey Johnson, FACE Stockholm (sold at JCrew!), Color Club, Besame and more so good quality products.

I was surprised that the shipping was pretty quick too.

Here is my invite link for Wantable. If you use my link I will get $10 credit towards my next subscription.

I will be subscribing to this in the new year so sure and I highly recommend.

No more book reviews on Geeky Girl Reviews

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and I hope you have the time to relax this weekend.  A for me the weekend has been crazy busy.

Friday was grocery day and boy did we have a lot to buy this week. I have a few different meals I have to make plus my husband wanted to make cookies .

Saturday morning I started a brand new blog. This new blog will be for book reviews and book giveaways only. If you want to see those reviews and enter in book giveaways that I will have in the future please check out Canadian Book Addict.  There isn't much going on in there yet and I do not have any blog followers in there yet so please join it if you are a book addict. As of today I am not going to be posting any book reviews or book giveaways in Geeky Girl Reviews.
Saturday afternoon and evening I spend a few hours cooking making something I would never even have made or eaten if it weren't for the fact that it was part of a review (post should be going live by Wednesday). By the time the food was almost all done I need help from my wonderful husband to help finish it because my hand was a little swollen. I have no clue why it was swollen but I am find now.

Today I have a few things to do on my blogs and I promised to help my husband with his cookie since he was nice enough to wash a lot of dishes yesterday and he helped out with my cooking.
