LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out review

HOLD ON TO YOUR BRICKS….FOR AN ALL-NEW ANIMATED ADVENTURE!
Your favorite characters are back to save the galaxy in LEGO® Star Wars®: The Empire Strikes Out™. The heroes of the Rebel Alliance including heroic Luke Skywalker, swaggering Han Solo and steadfast Princess Leia have no time to celebrate their victory over the Empire as a new Imperial threat arises. But as Jedi-in training Luke embarks on this next mission, he discovers that his celebrity status as a “Death-Star-Blower-Upper” can be a double-edged lightsaber when he’s constantly mobbed by crazed fans. So much for secret missions! Meanwhile, Darth Vader and Darth Maul are locked in a hilarious “Sith-ling” rivalry as they compete for the Emperor’s approval. It’s an action-packed comic adventure that’s out of this world!

MY REVIEW

We love Lego Star Wars cartoons but this one I think young children will enjoy it more than adults. It is cute and yes my husband and I did laugh a little but I think young children enjoy it a lot more.  It is very well done though but if you are a adult just wanting to buy it for yourself I think this DVD isn't worth it.

This DVD came with a  free medal ceremony Vader Lego mini figure and unfortunately the entire DVD is just 22 minutes long and I think that it should have been longer. Maybe they could have added other things to the DVD.

I give this 3 out of 5 just because the DVD was just 22 minutes and didn't have any features.

You can now purchase this online and in stores.

MY REVIEW

I have not read the first book in this series and you do not have to read the first book in this series to be able to get into this book. It didn't take me long to read it either because I couldn't put it down.

This book got me hooked during the first chapter and it is a fast–paced story that is both a mystery and a romance. If you like this kind of books I think you will love this one.

Creative Bio Science 90 Day Challenge (an update)

As you may already know I had started Creative Bio Science 90 Day Challenge. The First month it was fantastic because I had lost 10 pounds. If you want to read the post I wrote you can do so here.

Unfortunately I have bad new. I have not lost any more weight. It is not because this product doesn't work because it does but like anything else to lose weight you do have to workout but unfortunately my back was very bad for a few weeks from shoveling snow and then I got sick so I didn't do much working out other than shoveling snow.

Even though I do not have any Green Coffee Bean Extract left now that the weather is slowly getting nicer and warmer I will continue on my walks and I will start doing work outs again and I promised myself I will start eating healthier from now on and I will purchase some Green Coffee Bean Extract next time I get paid.

The Bible miniseries on Blu-ray Giveaway

Profile: Hans Zimmer

Inspired by The Bible
Inspired by The Bible
Coming to Blu-ray, DVD & DHD April 2nd

Hans Zimmer is an internationally renowned film composer and music producer. He has composed music for over 100 films, including award-winning film scores for The Lion King, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Dark Knight and Inception. Here we will take a look at The Bible composer’s most memorable melodies.

From Executive Producers Mark Burnett (The Voice, Survivor) and Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel) comes The Bible — an epic 10-hour miniseries, coming to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD April 2 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Breathtaking in scope and scale, THE BIBLE features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation.

Time (Inception)
This fantastic piece of music set the perfect tone for several scenes throughout the film. ‘Time’, highlights the intensity of each moment while also capturing the grand scale of the different worlds in which the film is set.

Chevaliers de Sangreal (The Da Vinci Code)
This memorable piece of music is used throughout the film, most notably in the final scenes as the camera pans over and beneath The Louvre in Paris. The music captures the gravity and implications of Robert Langdon’s quest as well as capturing the pace at which the narrative moves.

Injection (Mission Impossible 2)
Audiences will remember this piece of music from the climatic scenes at the end of Mission Impossible 2. The music provides the perfect accompaniment to the final scenes as the camera switches between the dramatic views of the Australian coast and the intense battle taking place on the beach.

A Small Measure of Peace (The Last Samurai)
As Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) prepares himself for battle in The Last Samurai the audience hears this poignant piece of music which ebbs and flows with Algren’s emotions. In this scene Algren realizes how much his life has changed while living with the Samurai and his true feelings for his host Taka (Koyuki).

Now We Are Free (Gladiator)
Hans Zimmer’s epic Gladiator soundtrack in 2000 earned him an Oscar nomination and provided audiences with one of the most recognizable soundtracks in cinema history. ‘Now We Are Free’ is played during the final moments in Maximus’ life as he takes the journey into the after-life.

One Day (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End)
In Jerry Bruckheimer’s epic third instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise ‘One Day’ provides audiences with a thumping accompaniment to the swashbuckling adventure which is playing in front of them. The music also captures the love between Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley) perfectly.

Why So Serious? (The Dark Knight)
This intense and thrilling piece of music provided the perfect accompaniment to the action on screen in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The piercing use of strings highlights the insane nature of the Joker (Heath Ledger), creating a tense atmosphere during key scenes in the film.

This Land (The Lion King)
Hans Zimmer doesn’t just provide scores for intense modern thrillers! In 1994 he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for his soundtrack to Disney’s The Lion King. The track ‘This Land’ gives audiences an amazing musical back-drop as Mufasa (James Earl Jones) describes the land to his young son Simba (Jonathan Taylor Thomas).

The future's a gamble. Few people know what they really want, and those that reach it often find that it isn't what they expected. Strange Circumstances is an anthology of stories exploring the predictability of fate and destiny... or rather their unpredictability.

In the twelve twisted tales and fifteen flash-fiction pieces, Strange Circumstances explores the boundaries of our universe to see what lurks in the unknown, hidden within the mysteries of science, magic, extraterrestrials, religion and the paranormal. SD TabletWear LuxFolio Kindle Paperwhite Case review

A few weeks ago I bought myself a early birthday gift. I needed a new eReader and after months of research I have decided on Kindle Paperwhite (which I will review an other day).

Anyways I needed a case for my brand new Kindle so I was happy to review the SD TabletWear LuxFolio Kindle Paperwhite Case.

I absolutely love this  case. It isn't fancy looking but it does what it should do, which is protect it .It isn't awkward to have the Kindle Paperwhite in the case and you can plug it in while the Kindle is in the case and you can access the power button easily as well. Also it protects the Kindle from dust and such when you are not using it so having this case really is a good thing to have and I am very happy I have it.

I highly recommend buying a Kindle Paperwhite case to protect your expensive Kindle.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz gift edition

In this dazzling full-color gift edition, L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is brought to life with specially commissioned illustrations by contemporary artist and designer Michael Sieben.
Follow the yellow brick road with Dorothy and her friends as they travel to the Emerald City in search of the great Wizard of Oz in this new, complete and unabridged edition of the classic tale that winds its way from Kansas to faraway places and back. From the land of the Munchkins to the deadly poppy field, from encounters with ferocious Kalidahs, Winged Monkeys, and Fighting Trees to battles with the Wicked Witches of the East and West, the magic of Baum's story is beautifully reimagined through the extraordinary art of Michael Sieben.

I loved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz when I was a child and I do admit that I still do. This is a new gift edition that I find is absolutely fantastic to give a child or to keep as a collection for yourself. I know I will be keeping this one and read it again and again in the future.

Chosen (Ancients of Light #1) by Heather Fleener (eBook review)

In the beginning...there were Vampire

Man’s fall from grace sparked the birth of the Dark creatures from the underworld. To counter the explicit threat to mankind, divinely-created immortals were brought forth. The Witch encompassed seven Castes of power; their magic was most effective against the nefarious agenda pursued by the evil ones.

She is Chosen...
Kaitriana’s gift of magic is unrivaled. A descendant of the most powerful Ancient in existence, her birth was foretold ages before her time. Destined to lead the Witch faction, she is betrayed by her own kind, destroying her birthright and all hope of delivering the Realm from the sinister shadow of the Ancient Dark.

He is the Key...
Lorcan is a mighty warlord in the Vampire species. His animosity towards the magical immortals is personal - his mother was their Queen. Having long since severed all ties with his former kin, his existence remains plagued by the repercussions of her treachery and a secret that threatens to be his downfall.

They are the Prophecy...
An arcane prophecy from the time of the Ancients proclaims that only two in all of creation can bring peace to the Realm. When Kaitriana miraculously appears seeking his protection, Lorcan must forsake his duty and disregard the dictates of his breed to shelter the female. Together they must combat the Ancient Dark and surmount the forces within their own factions that would oppose the Prophecy. Their fates have always been entwined and only when joined can they triumph over a blood feud that has shadowed the Light for millennia.

Parental Guidance Blu-ray movie Giveaway

Extended Family Comedies Countdown

Debuting on Blu-ray & DVD March 26th

Nothing says comedy like putting large families together for reunions or holidays, so here, we’ll count down the Top 10 funniest flicks about these clashing personalities, including Home Alone, Uncle Buck and of course Parental Guidance.

Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei prove that laughter is relative in this hilarious comedy that’s fun for the whole family!

Old-school grandparents Artie (Crystal) and Diane (Midler) get more than they bargained for when they get stuck babysitting their type-A daughter’s (Tomei) overprotected kids.  But things go from hectic to hysterical when Artie realizes the kids are running the house with their newfangled technology.  By playing by his own rules, which include sugary snacks, old fashioned games and tough love, Artie manages to outsmart the kids and achieve the impossible- bring the family closer together!

10. The Great Outdoors

The Craigs and the Ripleys couldn’t be more different! The Craigs’ patriarch is know-it-all investment banker Roman Craig (Dan Akyroyd) and fun-loving Chester (John Candy), better known as “Chet,” sits at the helm of the Ripley clan. When the Ripleys decide to explore the great outdoors on vacation and are spontaneously joined by the Craigs, hilarity follows.

9. Dark Shadows
Although there is no shortage of places to lay the blame for the drama within the Collins family, the most recent addition to the clan, Barnabas (Johnny Depp), is largely responsible for the family’s misfortune. He manages to bring the brood’s dysfunction to a boil in this enjoyable remake, when he rejoins the family after a 196-year absence and lengthy stay in a coffin following his torrid affair with a vindictive witch (Eva Green).

8. The Royal Tenenbaums
One would think that all would be well with a family as successful as the Tenenbaums, but nothing could be further from the truth. The impending divorce of family patriarch Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and wife Etheline (Anjelica Huston) leads the couple to summon their children home; unfortunately for them, the children bring bizarre revelations of their own home with them.

7. Monster-in-Law
Surgeon Kevin Fields (Michale Vartan) falls in love with Charlotte “Charlie” Cantilllini, a temp, and can’t wait to introduce her to his mother, Viola Fields (Jane Fonda). Viola, still reeling for the loss of her job to a younger woman, detests Charlie immediately and is fearful of losing her son to a younger woman in the same way that she lost her job. Charlie, although initially none the wiser, grows tired of Viola’s attempts to sabotage her relationship and a hilarious battle between the two women ensues in this delightful comedy.

6. Johnson Family Vacation
When Nate Johnson (Cedric the Entertainer) is invited to a family reunion he seizes the opportunity with the hope of rekindling his relationship with his wife (Vanessa Williams). Showing up his successful and arrogant older brother Mack (Steve Harvey) at the reunion’s talent show is also foremost on Nate’s mind in this amusing film.

5. Bringing Down the House
When newly divorced father Peter Sanderson (Steve Martin) finds himself in need of a little female company he turns to the internet and begins conversing with a woman known as lawyer-girl. Lawyer-girl turns out to be Charlene Morton (Queen Latifah) a wrongfully convicted bank robber who needs Peter’s legal assistance. Peter reluctantly agrees to help Charlene in exchange for her employment as a nanny to his two children. The arrangement works out better than either of them could have imagined for the family but Charlene’s addition to the neighborhood is not a welcome one and the hilarious reactions of Peter’s neighbors brings down the house in this raucous comedy.

4. Home Alone
In this classic, the night before his family is to depart for a holiday vacation to Paris, eight year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) gets into a fight with his cousins and siblings and is sent to the third floor of his family home. A power outage soon follows, causing the family to miss their alarms and rush to the airport, inadvertently leaving Kevin behind. As Kevin’s parent realize they’ve forgotten him and panic, he opts to leave well enough alone and resorts to eating all the ice cream he can hold and enjoying being home alone!

3. Uncle Buck
Following the heart attack of his father-in-law, Bob Russell (Garret Brown) enlists the help of his ne’er-do-well single brother Buck (John Candy). Although Buck hits it off immediately with his young nephew Miles (Macaulay Culkin), he has to work a little harder to win over his teenaged niece Tia (Jean Louisa Kelly). However, despite the initial challenges, soon everyone loves Uncle Buck!

2. Step Brothers
In this slapstick comedy, Brennan (Will Ferrell) and Dale (John C. Reilly), two unemployed middle-aged men still living with their parents, are forced to room together after their parents marry. To make matters worse, the two men are soon being mandated to find jobs or face eviction by their parents, in this sidesplitting coming of age story.

1. National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation
In the fourth installment of the National Lampoon’s Vacation series, the Griswolds set out to explore Las Vegas, Nevada. While there they encounter their eccentric cousin-in-law Eddie (Randy Quaid) who introduces them to the Las Vegas scene. Soon Ellen Griswold (Beverly D’Angelo) finds herself being wooed by Wayne Newton; Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) becomes addicted to gambling; and the Griswold children find themselves in the midst of other mishaps, in this delightful comedy.

Hitchcock (movie review)

Oscar® winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren* are spellbinding in this provocative story about the making of one of cinema’s most iconic films. Plagued by both a reckless ego and nagging self-doubt, Hollywood legend Alfred Hitchcock (Hopkins) becomes obsessed with a grisly murder story that the studios won’t back. Determined, he risks his reputation, his home and even the love of his wife Alma (Mirren), as he sets out to make the film. Ultimately, Hitch wins Alma over, and the two collaborate to create an enduring masterpiece – Psycho. Also starring Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette and Jessica Biel, Hitchcock is “a knockout from start to finish” (Rex Reed, New York Observer).

*Hopkins: 1991, Actor, The Silence of the Lambs. Mirren: 2006, Actress, The Queen.

MY REVIEW

Hidden Gates is the first book in the  P.J. Stone Gates Trilogy. I very much enjoyed this book. I started reading it one night and I didn't want to put it down. This is not a YA book. There is sex, swearing and under age drinking but it is very well written and it kept me reading until the very end. I can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book.  I highly recommend this.

I give this 4 out of 5

ENTER THE DRAGON 40TH ANNIVERSARY ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S EDITION GIFTSET ON BLU-RAY™ JUNE 11

Not sure if any of you are fans of Enter The Dragon  (my husband and I are) but I thought I would share this.

"… Great entertainment. A first-class action thriller in first-class style.”
         - John J. Puccio, Movie Metropolis
One of the Great Martial Arts Movies of All Time
ENTER THE DRAGON 40TH ANNIVERSARY
ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S EDITION GIFTSETON BLU-RAY™ JUNE 11
Includes Featurettes, Documentaries,
Memorabilia and More

Burbank, Calif., March 4, 2013 – Enter the Dragon, one of martial arts icon Bruce Lee’s last films, will debut June 11 on Blu-ray™ in the Enter the Dragon 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition giftset from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, which helped bring interest in the Asian martial arts genre to mainstream Western cinema, has been re-mastered for its 40th anniversary, and will now feature new bonus materials, such as the featurette, No Way as Way, on the legacy of Bruce Lee, plus other featurettes and commentary. Memorabilia -- which includes collectible art cards, lenticular card and an embroidered patch --are also part of the giftset.

Bruce Lee was an incredible athlete and mixed martial artist who, despite making a limited number of movies during his short life, became a charismatic megastar and left a permanent mark on cinema and popular culture. Even Time Magazine agreed. They included Lee in the “100 Most Important People of the 20th century” issue (Heroes and Icons 1999*).  Enter the Dragon continues to resonate with today’s audiences. It was a major theatrical hit 40 years ago, grossing approximately $25 million domestically – the equivalent of almost $180 million in today’s box-office. Enter the Dragon has sold more than 450,000 units on DVD and Blu-ray since 2004. In 2004, Enter the Dragon was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It also received a 95% positive rating on the critics’ review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes (www.rottentomatoes.com).

Lee was born in San Francisco on November 27, 1940. As a young boy in Hong Kong, he acted in some 20 films there and first became known in the U.S. in 1966 for his role as sidekick Kato in TV’s “The Green Hornet.” He also appeared in TV shows like “Ironside” and “Longstreet,” with his most notable American role coming in the 1969 movie, Marlowe, starring James Garner. Returning to Hong Kong, Lee starred in a number of successful films for Raymond Chow’s Golden Harvest Productions and soon became a superstar in China. His enormous overseas success ultimately reached Hollywood and the attention of filmmaker Fred Weintraub and Warner Bros., who produced Enter the Dragon and tapped the actor to star. Lee died suddenly in Hong Kong, at the age of 32, of a cerebral edema. That was on July 20, 1973, less than a month before the film’s August 17 U.S. premiere. Posthumously, Enter the Dragon rocketed him to international superstardom.

Enter the Dragon producer Fred Weintraub, who also wrote the book Bruce Lee, Woodstock, and Me said: “If fans want to hail Bruce as the greatest and most influential martial artist who ever lived, you’ll get no argument from me. He was a shining star who streaked across the night sky of our collective awareness in a flash of white hot unsustainable intensity only to burn up in the atmosphere of fame, wealth, and worldwide adulation. Watching him again (this time even better on Blu-ray), you can see why he became the first international superstar from a third world country.”

The plot of the Enter the Dragon revolves around outstanding martial arts student Lee (Bruce Lee), who is recruited by an intelligence agency and then uncovers the evil Han's (Kien Shih) white slavery and drug trafficking ring located on a secret island fortress. Along with martial arts champions Roper (John Saxon) and Williams (Jim Kelly), Lee infiltrates the stronghold and enters Han’s brutal tournament. Lee and his partners fuse skills in Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, T'ai chi ch'uan and Hapkido, in a now classic fight-to-the-death epic battle, all staged by Lee himself.

Bruce Lee, John Saxon, and Ahna Capri star in Enter the Dragon, which co-stars Bob Wall, and Shih Kien and introduces Jim Kelly. Music is by Lalo Schifrin. Written by Michael Allen, the film was produced by Fred Weintraub and Paul Heller in association with Raymond Chow. Robert Clouse directed.
