WARNER BROS. HOME ENTERTAINMENT AND DC PRESENT COMPILATION OF 2019-2020 ANIMATED SHORTS

COMING OCTOBER 13, 2020 TO

BLU-RAY™ & DIGITAL

NEW COLLECTION INCLUDES ACCLAIMED TITLES SGT. ROCKADAM STRANGEDEATH AND THE PHANTOM STRANGER

BURBANK, CA (July 30, 2020) – Five fascinating tales from the iconic DC canon, including the first interactive film presentation in Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) history, come to animated life in DC Showcase – Batman: Death in the Family. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the anthology of 2019-2020 animated shorts arrives from WBHE on Blu-ray and Digital starting October 13, 2020.

Anchoring the compilation of shorts is Batman: Death in the Family, WBHE’s first-ever venture into interactive storytelling that allows fans to choose where the story goes through an innovative navigation guided by the viewer’s remote control. Central to the extended-length short is an adaptation of “Batman: A Death in the Family,” the 1988 landmark DC event where fans voted by telephone to determine the story’s ending.

Inspired by characters and stories from DC’s robust portfolio, the 2019-2020 series of shorts – which have been individually included on DC Universe Movies releases since Summer 2019 – include:

  • Sgt. Rock
  • Adam Strange
  • Death
  • The Phantom Stranger

DC Showcase – Batman: Death in the Family will be available on Blu-ray (USA $24.98 SRP) and Digital (19.99 SRP). The Blu-ray features a Blu-ray disc with all of the shorts in hi-definition, including the fully-interactive, extended-length Batman: Death in the Family, plus a digital version of the four other 2019-2020 DC Showcase shorts. The Digital distribution features the Batman: Death in the Family extended-length short in a non-interactive format (pre-assembled version of the story, entitled Under the Red Hood: Reloaded), along with the other four 2019-2020 DC Showcase shorts, and three other non-interactive versions of the Batman: Death in the Family (entitled Jason Todd’s RebellionRobin’s Revenge and Red Hood’s Reckoning) as bonus features (Note: not all Digital retailers offer bonus features with purchase). The Blu-ray also offers approximately five minutes of additional content within the Batman: Death in the Family story that is not included in the Digital version.

Produced, directed and written by Brandon Vietti, Batman: Death in the Family offers an inventive take on the long-demanded story. In the new animated presentation, the infamous murder of Batman protégé Jason Todd will be undone, and the destinies of Batman, Robin and The Joker will play out in shocking new ways as viewers make multiple choices to control the story. And while Batman: Under the Red Hood provides a baseline, the story also branches in new directions and features several characters previously unseen in the original film. Bruce Greenwood (The Resident, Star Trek, iRobot), Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) and John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time) reprise their Batman: Under The Red Hood roles of Batman, young Jason Todd and The Joker, respectively. Other featured voices are Zehra Fazal (Young Justice) as Talia al Ghul and Gary Cole (Veep) as Two-Face and James Gordon.

Batman: Death in the Family is essentially a comic book come to life,” says Vietti, whose DC Universe Movies directing credits include Batman: Under the Red Hood and Superman: Doomsday, and he is co-creator and co-executive producer of the popular Young Justice animated television series. “We’ve paid homage to the 1988 interactive experience of DC’s ‘A Death in the Family’ comics release by giving fans a unique opportunity to craft their own story through a branching tool that can lead in multiple directions. The viewer gets to choose these characters’ paths, and each choice paves an alternate future for all of the characters and, ultimately, the story.”

The interactive Blu-ray presentation offers many different ways for viewers to tell the Batman: Death in the Family story, with numerous twists and turns in the middle, and several possible endings. The choices along the way put greater weight on the viewers’ decisions and result in even stronger stories. Viewers can also choose to allow the story to tell itself, as there is an option to let the Blu-ray decide its own path.

Packed with Easter Eggs, the centerpiece short’s story – with its foundation grounded in the original “Batman: A Death in the Family” comic run, and the acclaimed Batman: Under the Red Hood animated film – balances a number of integral themes within its entertainment, including fatherhood, mental health, death, rebirth, revenge and redemption. Along the route, viewers encounter new, surprising looks at some classic DC characters.

“From the very first navigation card, we wanted to give the audience an impression of what they’re getting into, but then also give them something unexpected – maybe even something they’ll regret, so they have to think twice about every future choice they make,” Vietti explains. “Branched storytelling has to be stronger than just the gimmick of the choices – it has to be rewarding and offer new and worthwhile insights into the characters. It needs to involve you, and keep you searching for the next twist. So we sought to subvert expectations and do something very different.”

Beyond Batman: Death in the Family, the additional four shorts on Blu-ray & Digital are:

Originally attached to Batman: HushSgt. Rock is executive produced and directed by Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) from a script by award-winning comics writers Louise Simonson & Walter Simonson and Tim Sheridan (Superman: Man of TomorrowReign of the Supermen). The original tale finds battle-weary Sgt. Rock thinking he has seen everything that World War II can dish out. But he is in for the surprise of his life when he is assigned to lead a company consisting of legendary monsters into battle against an unstoppable platoon of Nazi zombies. Karl Urban (Star Trek & Lord of the Rings film franchises) provides the voice of Sgt. Rock. Also voicing characters in Sgt. Rock are Keith Ferguson, William Salyers and Audrey Wasilewski.

Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” Death is produced & directed by Sam Liu (Superman: Red Son, The Death of Superman) and written by J.M. DeMatteis (Batman: Bad Blood). In the story, Vincent, an artist with unresolved inner demons, meets a mysterious girl who helps him come to terms with his creative legacy … and eventual death. Leonard Nam (Westworld) provides the voice of Vincent, and Jamie Chung (The Gifted, Big Hero 6) is the voice of Death. The cast includes Darin De Paul, Keith Szarabajka and Kari Wahlgren. Death was originally included with Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.

Attached as a bonus feature on the release of Superman: Red SonThe Phantom Stranger has Bruce Timm (Batman: The Killing Joke) at the helm as executive producer & director, and the short is written by Ernie Altbacker (Justice League Dark: Apokolips WarBatman: Hush). Set in the 1970s, the short find the enigmatic DC mystery man simultaneously playing both omniscient narrator and active character in a story of supernatural comeuppance for evil doersPeter Serafinowicz (The Tick) gives voice to The Phantom Stranger, and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville, Impastor) provides the voice of Seth. The Phantom Stranger also features the voices of Natalie Lander, Grey Griffin and Roger Craig Smith.

Adam Strange is produced and directed by Butch Lukic (Superman: Man of Tomorrow), who also conceived the original story – which is written by J.M. DeMatteis (Deathstroke: Knights & DragonsConstantine: City of Demons). The short was initially attached to Justice League Dark: Apokolips WarOn a rugged asteroid mining colony, few of the toiling workers are aware that their town drunk was ever anything but an interplanetary derelict. But when the miners open a fissure into the home of a horde of deadly alien insects, his true identity is exposed. He is space adventurer Adam Strange, whose heroic backstory is played out in flashbacks as he struggles to save the very people who have scorned him for so long. Charlie Weber (How To Get Away with Murder) provides the voice of Adam Strange, alongside with Roger R. Cross, Kimberly Brooks, Ray Chase and Fred Tatasciore.

All five new DC Showcase shorts credits include Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) as co-producer and Amy McKenna (Wonder Woman: Bloodlines) as producer. Sam Register is executive producer.

Initially launched in 2010, DC Showcase was originally comprised of four animated shorts produced by Bruce Timm and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos: The Spectre (released on 2/23/2010), Jonah Hex (7/27/2010), Green Arrow (9/28/2010) and Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam (11/9/2010). An additional short, Catwoman (10/18/2011), was attached the following year to the release of Batman: Year One, and was directed by Lauren Montgomery (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) and executive produced by Bruce Timm. Screenwriters on the initial quintet were Steve Niles (The Spectre), Joe Lansdale (Jonah Hex), Greg Weisman (Green Arrow), Michael Jelenic (Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam) and Paul Dini (Catwoman).

Interactive storytelling offers an entirely new dimension of entertainment for DC animated movie fans, and an exciting look into potential titles for the future,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Senior Vice President, Originals, Animation and Family Marketing. “Brandon Vietti has crafted a uniquely involving, multi-tiered approach to captivating the audience with both popular story devices and some very unexpected plot twists.”

MY THOUGHTS

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this Interactive animated shorts but I am happy to say that I actually enjoyed it.  It was entertaining and very much different.

I do very much recommend this.

Riverdale: The Complete Fourth Season #Review

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own

The fourth season of Riverdale begins with a farewell to Fred Andrews (Luke Perry). As Independence Day approaches, Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) receives a phone call that will forever change his life. Through an emotional journey, with support from his girlfriend, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), and best friends Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Archie and the citizens of Riverdale grieve the loss of the town’s heart and soul. Our story continues with senior year at Riverdale High, which means varsity football games, cheerleading, back-to-school parties and college applications. But it also means bittersweet moments, like the first last day of high school. In the meantime, Archie honors his father and develops a deeper connection with his mother, Betty uncovers more about her mother and sister, Veronica goes unsupervised while her parents spend time in jail, and Jughead turns more to writing.

MY THOUGHTS

Season 4 was full of emotions. If you have been watching it you will know what I mean. I found a couple of episodes a bit confusing but that was the point in those episodes.  I admit in those parts i was WTF!! and yes I did say that out loud while I was watching the show.

I did enjoy season 4  and I just can't wait for the next season to start.

Have you been watching Riverdale?

Good News

After all the problems we had with this  move I am happy to say that we didn't lose the house and the man that was buying our house in Kingston, Ontario finally had the money sent to us.

We moved into our house last Monday and I will say that my husband and I were so happy to finally sleep in our own bed.

We spent all last week unpacking and setting up everything in the house the way we want it and today is the first day that I can actually sit down for a while to check emails and I am hoping I will soon be receiving products again to review.

I really need to get my blog stats back up so if you all can help me by sharing my blog that will be lovely.

I hope you are all having a good Monday.

Moving Update #3

I hate complaining on my blog but I need to update you all.

If you read my previous moving update you will know that we were supposed to have our key to new house on July 31st but then there was a delay because the buyer of our house that we were selling couldn't get his money on time. We were told we would have it by this Friday (tomorrow) but now they say not for another 2 weeks.  😡😡😡  because of that, we can't get our money to pay for the house that we bought at our new location.

My husband and I are really getting stressed out because we can't afford to stay in hotels for that much longer.  I am so done and the stress has been making me sick so this isn't good for our health either.

Anyway, I just thought I would update you all. Please send us good/ positive vibes or thoughts because right now we really need it.

A Moving Update #2

I know it has been over a month since I last posted anything in this blog but my husband and I have been busy and stressed.

Because of the Covid-19 and also because we didn't have a way to have someone care for our dog while we would be house hunting I had to stay behind while my husband went to our new town to house hunt.

We had one house on our radar but unfortunately we couldn't get that one. Since we only had a week to find a house and purchase one we decided we would go to our second choice.  That was in late June.

Since we purchased we have been frantically cleaning our current home and getting ready to move out. We had a closing date of July 31st.

Just less than a week before we have the movers come the buyer decided to ask us to push possession date another 2 weeks. Since it was such short notice we had to say no because possession day for our new house was also July 31st.

Now July 31st arrives and all seem to be going well. We drove 3 hours to our new town and went for a walkthrough of our new house to make sure everything was fine.  We were just waiting for the lawyer to call us to go pick up the keys.     The lawyer called and said .. wait.. the is a delay in the mortgage on the buyers' end so that meant that we can't have the sale money from the previous house to pay our mortgage for new house which means we can't move in the new house. It is not right. Heck, I don't even think it is legal for a buyer to do that. I don't know if it actually isn't legal but since I am not a lawyer but my gut says it isn't.    Anyway, we had to frantically call the moving company to tell them not to deliver our things at the new house on Tuesday like it was all planned and to put our things in storage for a week (lawyer said it will be all fixed in a week).    So now we are in a hotel (me, my husband and our dog) until next Friday.

Anyway,  sorry for the long post but I thought I would let you all know.  Of course, all this is affecting my reviews/blogging because I can not accept any products right at this moment.

A Moving update

If you have been reading my blog posts during the past month you probably already know that my husband and I are moving.

We have put our house up for sale on May 19th then the next couple of days was a little crazy.  We had 7 house showings in just 4 days!!!  Actually, on the second day, we had an offer but we just waited a couple of days to see if we would get a new offer but that was in our favour because the same person raised his offer. Of course, we took that offer since we really don't have time to just sit and wait to see if we would have any more.  So our house is now officially SOLD!!!!  Yay.

We haven't bought a new house yet but we are hoping that will happen in the next 2 weeks.

I really can't wait to finally have our new address and to have finally moved into our new house so that I can start doing more reviews again.

The Invisible Man #Review

I received a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own

THE INVISIBLE MAN follows a modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character. Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss) slowly begins to rebuild her life after the death of her abusive ex-boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). But before long, she begins to question whether or not he is truly gone. In addition to the feature, THE INVISIBLE MAN delivers up twenty minutes of exclusive bonus content, including a chance to better get acquainted with the film’s leading actress: Elisabeth Moss, feature commentary with the writer/director and deleted scenes you won’t want to miss.

MY THOUGHTS

I really had no expectations for this movie but I did want to see it because a few of my friends enjoyed it.

I am happy to say that I enjoyed The Invisible Man.  I didn't find it scary but I don't usually find horror movies that scary. I think this is more like a thriller than horror.

I do recommend this.

This is a 4 out of 5 stars for me.

I am a huge fan of Harley Quinn so of course I had to watch this and I am so glad I did because well I have to say I love this show. The story is fantastic and the animation is as well.  I personally liked the actors that play each character.

This is one I know I will be watching again in the future and I have already been watching season 2 on Adult Swim.

EMMA. #Review

I received a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own

Jane Austen’s nineteenth-century comedy on misguided matchmaking and romantic mishaps gets a refreshing update in the heartwarming and witty EMMA., available on Digital May 5, 2020 and on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand on May 19, 2020 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Hailed as “gorgeous, modern and authentic” (Stephanie Zacharek, Time), the wickedly funny film chronicles the privileged but well-meaning young Emma Woodhouse (The Witch and Thoroughbreds’ Anya Taylor-Joy). A vibrant visual treat, the Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh® EMMA., is “an unexpectedly timely sparkling romance” (Harriet Fitch Little, VOGUE), and features exclusive, never-before-seen bonus content including deleted scenes, gag reel, and behind-the-scene featurettes with the cast and crew whisking audiences away to the world of our mischievous heroine and the everlasting story of self discovery.

Jane Austen’s beloved comedy about finding your equal and earning your happy ending is reimagined in this delicious new film adaptation of EMMA.. Handsome, clever and rich, Emma Woodhouse (Taylor-Joy) is a restless “queen bee” without rivals in her sleepy little English town. In this glittering satire of social class, Emma must navigate her way through the challenges of growing up, misguided matches and romantic missteps to realize the love that has been there all along.

Autumn de Wilde’s feature debut EMMA. is “irresistible” (Justin Chang, NPR) and “the best adaptation yet” (Matt Goldberg, Collider), featuring a fresh and razor-sharp screenplay by Man Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton (“The Luminaries”) that stays true to Austen’s endearing novel and brings to life the English Countryside in 1815. With an exceptional ensemble cast lead by Taylor-Joy EMMA. is rounded out by Johnny Flynn (Beast), Bill Nighy (Love Actually, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Series), Mia Goth (Suspiria), Josh O’ Connor (“The Crown”), Miranda Hart (Spy, “Call the Midwife”), Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, “War & Peace”), Tanya Reynolds (“Sex Education”), Connor Swindells (“Sex Education”), Rupert Graves (“Sherlock,” A Room with a View) and Gemma Whelan (“Game of Thrones”). Accompanied by a joyous and energetic score by composer Isobel Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) and David Schweitzer, EMMA. is a stunning new vision of the groundbreaking literary classic on love and redemption. The theatrical version of the film is currently available for early viewing on a wide variety of popular on-demand services as a premium rental offering.

MY THOUGHTS

Ok I admit I have not seen any of the other movie adaptations of the book and I have not read the book so I can't compare to see how true to the book the movie is.

I had no expectations of this movie and I am surprised that I actually enjoy it.

This is actually entertaining, romantic and a little silly. I did have a few giggles.

I do recommend it.

I am giving this 4 out of 5.

MY THOUGHTS

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is a fun, entertaining and action-packed animated film that I did enjoy.

I like the story and the animation is fantastic.

As you all know by now, my husband and I have been very big fans of these DC comics animation films.  We have watched every single one of them as soon as they have come out and will be watching all the future ones right away as well.

If you are a DC comics fan this is a must-watch.

I give this 4 out of 5.
