Prom in Pop Culture
Dance into stores to pick up a copy of Carrie on DVD and Blu-ray, January 14th!
Carrie is a re- imagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Prom night has been dubbed one of the passage rights of high school, so can you blame Carrie for going a little nuts? Her special night just didn't turn out like it the ones in fairy-tales. To gear you up to see Carrie’s prom night, we've compiled a list of films that showcase awesome high school dances.

In a
town where rock music and dancing are prohibited, one would think
Prom night might be a downer. Ren McCormack decides he needs to
change that by going in front of the City Council, which includes the
father of the girl he is crushing on. When he is still voted against,
Ren outsmarts them by moving the town out of city limits.
2. Mean Girls
While
Mean Girl’s actually puts on a “Spring Fling” rather than a
prom, it’s close enough. Even if Cady Heron shows up in a
mathlete's jacket and khaki pants, she still totally has the night
of her dreams. She wins queen, a gift certificate to the Walker
Brother’s pancake house and she and Aaron Samuels are practically
dating now.
3. She’s
all that
While
Laney's prom night doesn't exactly go as she would have dreamed,
her evening to follow easily makes up for it. When Laney leaves the
dance early, she finds Zack at her house and there they share a
magical dance and their first kiss. Adorable.
4. Never
Been Kissed
Josie
pretty much gets an unfair life advantage, because this is
technically her second chance at prom. Josie wins prom queen even
though no one knows she isn't really a student, just a journalist
who has never been kissed. In an epic scene, Josie reveals her secret
at the risk of losing everything she’s gained so far, including the
teacher she has the hots for, to defend a girl who was just like her.
5. A Cinderella Story
Okay
so technically this is a Halloween dance, but Sam Montgomery looks
like a prom queen so it’s okay. Sam and her cyber email lover plan
to meet up at the dance, but she doesn't want to reveal that she’s
the girl who works at the diner and only has one friend. When it’s
time for her to leave, Sam accidentally loses her phone, so Austin
has to track her down (I guess they didn't have the find-my-phone
app).
